Spreading Awareness

April is National Child Abuse Awareness Month. In my own unique way of spreading awareness, I create some nail art. It was my "opening liner", people notice your nails, so I took advantage, anyone who wanted to know what the ribbon was for I could tell them it was in a effort to spread awareness. Child abuse/neglect is an ongoing problem, but it is not just one person's problem, it affects the whole community. When a child is injured or worst, killed as a result of abuse and/or neglect that is something that we all feel. Abuse/neglect does not just come from parents, it can come from a babysitter, a neighbor, other family members and even CPS. How many CPS stories are out there. We wont end child abuse unfortunately, but what we can do is take a stand against it, we can shatter the silence. If we know of abuse it is out job to report it. If you dont know who to call or what to say during that call, check out the websites & resource page of this blog. Even though the month of April has been designated National Child Abuse Awareness Month, we should be spreading awareness EVERYDAY!!!

Here are the photos are my nail art.

Amy Emily Annamunthodo

This is the story of Amy Emily Annamunthodo. A beautiful little girl from Trinidad. This 4 year old angel suffered so much abuse at the hands of her "de-facto" stepfather. She fought all she could until May 15th, 2006 with she couldn't fight anymore. Her beautiful light had been dimmed. As you will see in the video, shortly after, the house where she had lived was burned and only a teddy bear and a dress survived. None of Amy's toys or photos. In fact the only photo of Amy is the one below:
This is the only photo of Amy Emily. It was taken as family and friends said their last goodbyes. She looks like she is finally at peace. She shouldn't have been here. People knew of the abuse and did nothing to stop it. No one fought for Amy, not her mother or her bio dad, both who knew of the abuse. Not the neighbor who not only knew of the abuse, but witnessed it for himself and did nothing. Amy found a little peace in her short life, when she was placed in a children's home. But after a petition to the state by her mother and grandmother, a judge granted custody back to Amy's mom and with that judgement, sealing Amy's faith.

If only someone would've come forward a while ago, if someone would have just made a phone and got an investigation started. Maybe Amy would be alive today. Take a long, hard look at this photo. This is what happens when you turn a blind eye to child abuse. This is what happens when you know that a child is being abused or neglected and you choose not to report it. This could have been prevented in my opinion. Rest in peace Amy Emily. You are at peace now, where no one can hurt you ever again.

Letha Slate

This is Letha Slate. Beautiful isn't she? She was born on August 30th, 2005 to Patricia Campbell and John Slate. Her time on this Earth wasn't long due to a stupid act on the part of her mother.  On March 25th 2006, daddy was at work and it was time for Letha to take a bath. Patricia put then 6 month old Letha in a bath seat and then decided she was sleepy so she went and took a nap.

John came home during his lunch break, I think reports say 45 mins later, and found his baby girl unresponsive.  She survived only three days in the hospital before succumbing on March 27, 2006.

Her mother was not charged with murder due to the wording in OK child neglect statue. She was charged with second degree manslaughter and was sentenced to 4 years in prison. Her accounts to police was; she put the baby in the tub and went into the next room to lie down and fell asleep.  She said that she didnt wake up until John came home and told her that the baby had drowned. It was 45 mins. She said she usually fills the tub pretty full because the baby liked to play in the water, but she puts her in a bath seat.

The judge made it a point to let it be known that this light sentence was not an excuse for her behavior, that she did cause the death of her child. I 100% agree. If I knew that I was sleepy or tired then I would not put my 6 month old baby in a "pretty full" bath tub. John Slate worked hard with the state to put in place harder laws for child neglect. He successfully got the word "and" replaced with the word "or" and is working to get Letha's law passed in other state. It is a very sad situation, but her daddy makes sure her death was not in vain.

R.I.P baby Letha.

Kyle Holland

This is Kyle Holland. He was just 5 y.o at the time of his tragic death. This is Kyle's story.

What should have been a normal Monday in July 2010 was anything but. On this day at about 9:30 am his lifeless body was found just outside of his bedroom. At the time of the initial report, the cause of death was not determined, but it was clear that Kyle had suffered from the trauma of being mauled by a dog.

Along with Kyle, inside the home were his mother Debby Holland and her boyfriend of 2 weeks, Dwayne Adkins, along with their two pets, a 35 lb lab mix and a 90 lb Siberian husky/German Shepard mix(wolf hybrid) by the way not legal in the state of MI.

Debby said that she put Kyle to bed around 10:30pm with a glass of chocolate milk, she left the tv on so he could watch cartoons. I it unclear as to what exactly happened between bedtime and the next morning when Kyle was found. His mother claims to not have heard anything. I think is a bunch of bs. To make matters even worst for Kyle's family, although his death has now been ruled a homicide, no arrest have been made.  Autopsy reports show that Kyle died because of multiple crush wounds caused by dog bites. He was bitten in the face, neck, head, shoulder, chest, left leg and arms. And neither adult heard a sound. You know, my mom always said people have selective hearing, they hear what they want too.

The morning that Kyle was found, reports say that a cross the street neighbor witness Debby being visibly upset, screaming "my babies are dead". Wow, of course she would be upset. Who wouldn't be. I couldnt imagine finding my baby boy like that.
This is Debby Holland. As you can see she is dressed in a Halloween costume, which means this photo was taken in October 2010. Now, if you remember, Kyle died in July 2010. This is how upset she was three months after her son died. I guess after everyone stopped looking, the emotions she felt just kinda went away. I thought it to be kinda questionable that one of the "pages" she like is something like "i was so drunk, i cant be responsible" something to that effect. Maybe that says why she never heard her son dying. Whats worst is Kyle's grave marker was donated by MI, and on his bday, she put NOTHING on his grave. Wow, actions speak louder then words. I dont know what this little boy did to deserve this. What did he do to have a mother who can care less?

Justice 4 Kyle Holland is a facebook page you can go to, to show your support. On this page there are some wonderful photos of Kyle and his family. Also you will find some photos of how his mother has left his grave. She has a fb page and ironically Kyle's page is not a fav. I wonder why. The page was started by Kyle's cousin.

R.I.P Kyle. God has you now. Continue to watch over the ones who truly love you. Spread your wings sweet angel.

Dominick Calhoun

This sweet faced angel is Dominick Calhoun. When you look into his innocent eyes, you think yo yourself, who would want to cause harm to him. What could this beautiful little boy have done so wrong that not only would someone want to hurt him, but take him away from the ones who really loved him?

In short, this is Dominick's tragic story.

On April 8th 2010, 4-year old Dominick was sitting on the couch at his home. While he sat on the couch, he had an accident and wet himself and the couch. Now instead of just picking him up, telling him it was ok cause accidents happen, Brandon Hayes, his mother's boyfriend, got enraged and began to punch and kick Dominick over and over in the head. Still upset, Brandon then turned and began to abuse Corrine, Dominick's mom. You see, what Brandon was mad about, was the fact that someone had to now pay for the couch to be cleaned. Day two: Still upset, Brandon again starts kicking Dominick in the head and the private area. How much more can this poor baby take?

Day three: Dominick is now unconscious and listless. Reports say that Brandon dragged Dominick by his arms and kicked him again and would beat him through out the day. Day four: Christine Baker, Dominick's Aunt, come to buy drugs from her sister and Brandon. Corrine informs her that Dominick is sleep in his room and not to go in. Thats when Brandon tells Corrine to go and check on the baby. Christine goes into Dominick's room and sees her nephew's badly beaten, swollen unconscious body lying on the bed. She runs out of the apartment in horror at what she has just saw. Corrine begs her not to call the cops, she was fearful that they would think she abuse Dominick and she would go back to jail and violate her probation. Wow, mommy of the year huh? So worried about her own well being, she is denying her son the medical attention he so badly needed.

Christine runs to the parking lot and calls Dominick's grandfather who then rushes over to the apartments to be met by Brandon trying to convince Rick (grandpa) that he didnt do this. Rick is not buying any of this, he punches Brandon and starts to look for Tyler, Dominick's brother, who is in the Northend of the apartments. The police find Dominick wet in a tee and a pull-up moaning and struggling to breathe. Dominick is rushed to the hospital. He is examined and declared brain dead and placed on life support. Rick now has to make what had to be the hardest phone call in his life. He had to call his son Eric and tell him to get to the hospital. Corrine is taken to the hospital, Brandon was arrested. Family gathered to be with Dominick.

That following Monday, Dominick was taken off life support. The world would morn the lost of another angel.

Brandon Hayes was charged with torture, child abuse, homicide, murder, assault with the intent to create great bodily harm less than murder, delivery of marijuana to a minor, possession with the intent to deliver and possession of hydrocodone.
Corrine Baker was also charged with her son's death. She was charged with second degree murder even though she claims that she could not have done anything to stop the beatings. WTF ever.

Something new: Records show that on April 9th, day two of her sons torture, Corrine left the apartment with her parents for a doctors appointment.  Her parents have reported that they picked Corrine up from the apartments as the beatings were happening and not once did she hint to the fact that her child was in danger. Her parents also report that they spoke with Corrine the day after that. She claims that there was nothing she could have done to stop Brandon. I am calling BS. She was suppose to be his mother, his protector and she failed. She failed simply because she had a warrant out on her and she was afraid that is Child Protective Services got involved she would go back to jail in a probation violation. She is self centered and selfish. Her son endured four days of pure hell at the hands of her boyfriend, simply because he wet his pants. And now because she didnt want to get Dominick the help that could have saved his precious life, she is back in the one spot she never wanted to be. My personal opinion, I hope she is suffering mentally knowing that she could have saved her baby boy. God will get them both. Dominick can rest in peace knowing that he will get the justice that he so rightly deserves.

Rest In Peace sweet boy. You are in the best hands to be in. You are with God and no one will hurt you ever again.

Kyleigh Mae McDaniel-Robinson

This sweet baby is Kyleigh Mae McDaniel-Robinson. She was given to her parents by God on March 9th 2009. And returned to him on March 18th, 2010.

All the photos of her, she was the apple of her father's eye. She was loved by her family so much. With so much love around her, how could someone hurt her?

It was a week after her first birthday, her mom went to work and left her in the care of her 19 y.o boyfriend Alexander Stolte, whom she had been dating for 3 months. Wtf do you know about someone in three months that you would trust them with your baby? According to news reports, 911 responded to a call where there was a child not breathing. She was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

According to a police affidavit, Stolte had called Kyleigh's mom McKenzie three times that night. The first call he told her that Kyleigh's eye was droopy. She reportedly said it could have been from a cold. The second call was to say Kyleigh couldn't sleep, the last phone was to tell her that Kyleigh wasn't breathing and he had called 911.  He told police that Kyleigh had fallen into a stroller, he denied drinking, but later admitted to drinking vodka and a Breathalyzer read .07 BAL. Doctors say blunt impact on the head is what killed this precious angel.

Alexander Stolte was charged with second-degree murder. He pleaded not guilty. He admitted to being the only one in the house with the baby. She didnt fall into a stroller and get "blunt impact." Alexander Stolte is a lying SOB and he will get justice, whether it is in this lifetime or the next. Kyleigh will have justice. Until that day, you hold on to God's unchanging hand sweet girl. No one can hurt you now.  Rest in peace Kyleigh.
